The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is announcing a public meeting to be held on March 27, 2026, entitled “Exploring the Scope of Dietary Supplement Ingredients.” The meeting will help inform the FDA’s next steps regarding the meaning of the dietary ingredient categories defined in the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994.
During this event, there will be presentations to provide background on the following topics:
- The scope of the phrase “dietary substance for use by man to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake” as used in DSHEA;
- New methodologies to produce existing dietary ingredients; and
- Specific ingredient types, including proteins, enzymes, and microbials.
Meeting participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback during the meeting and submit comments for the agency to review. Registration details and comment submission instructions will be available on the meeting page.
